Autorun Malware, Most-Prevalent E-Threat during Q1-2011

According to BitDefender the security company, which just released its Q1-2011 report of malware e-threats, the Autorun utility associated with detachable devices continues to be cyber-criminals' most exploited vulnerability. Hence, ranking No.1 on the chart of e-threat distribution between January and March 2011, the malware -Trojan.AutorunINF.Gen reportedly accounted for 7.26% of the total detections across the world, according to BitDefender.

Actually, the Autorun utility has been found vulnerable to every sort of malware assault. Also, since the PC virus constantly remains among the five most-prevalent malicious programs on BitDefender's malware charts, it becomes evident that users persistently don't want to load security updates, which vendors for operating systems provide.

Meanwhile, occupying the No.2 spot is Trojan.Crack.I, a new malware of 2011 that following merely some months of presence accounts for 6.07% of all detections across the globe. Notably, this Trojan produces illegitimate registration keys so shareware products can be defeated insofar as their commercial safeguards are concerned.

Furthermore, coming on No.3 is Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen, which accounted 5.58% of all infections globally, according to BitDefender's Q1-2011 malware report. The worm reportedly, proliferates to other PCs locally interconnected, by exploiting MS08-67, the security flaw of RPC Handling Remote Code Execution within Microsoft Windows Server Service.

In the meantime, following Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen and being responsible for 4.85% of all malicious program infections, Gen:Variant.Adware.Hotbar.1 ranked No.4 on BitDefender's e-threats chart. The Trojan seemingly is created to clandestinely load keylogger programs and/or spyware for stealing sensitive information like bank account, password etc. Moreover, it contaminates Windows 32-bit executable programs, while performing its task within various Win32 platforms.

Adding to all the above malware threats, the Exploit.CpILnk.Gen comes in on No.5 on BitDefender's quarterly malware chart as it proliferates by exploiting operating system (OS) vulnerability, according to the security company. Also, this malicious program greatly affects all Windows operating systems post Windows 2000 OS.

Finally, there are some other e-threats too listed on BitDefender's Q1-2011 malware chart and these are: Java.Trojan.Downloader.OpenConnection.AI with 2.49% of all infections, Win32.Sality.OG with 2.28%, Win32.Sality.3 with 2.23%, Trojan.Autorun.AET with 1.79%, Trojan.Generic.4170878 with 1.75%, all of which rank No. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
