Cyber-Criminals Preparing to exploit the Royal Nuptials Day

Security Company Norton Symantec Inc recently conducted a research according to which, cyber-criminals are seeking for exploiting the day when Prince William will wed Catherine Middleton on 29th April 2011 via unleashing different kinds of campaigns involving malware and spam.

Says Symantec, if anyone gets an e-mail asking him/her to be a guest at the royal ceremony then most likely some spammer has sent it instead of the happy pair.

Further according to the company, it is already aware of SEO scams involving search phrases like "Royal Wedding Invitations," "Kate's Wedding Diet," "Official Royal Wedding Merchandise" as well as spam mails promising the engagement ring's duplicates.

Additionally, Symantec cautioned Web-surfers to watch out for spam mails as well as dubious websites offering a glance at Kate's wedding gown, the slimming secrets of the would-be bride, or images of the star-night party from Prince William.

The security company further cautioned that potentially 1 Australian out of 5 who seeks to click on the web-link to the royal marriage is in danger of getting victimized with cyber-crime. Smh.com.au reported this on April 19, 2011.

The company highlighted that spikes in Web-surfing associated with prominent international events as also online crimes started resulting in PC-worms disguised as intriguing content, scandalous images or leaked footage only recently during March 2011.

It (Symantec) added that it didn't necessarily mean that if something appeared on any Google search alternatively evaded the user's spam folder it was authentic. Web-hackers victimized unwitting visitors when breaking news events flowed via the concealment of PC-viruses and malevolent web-links inside plain-looking sites. They might yet distribute phishing e-mails promising wide news coverage so victims might reveal their credit card details, pull down malware, alternatively facilitate admission into their PCs, Symantec warned. Geeksugar.com reported this on April 19, 2011.

However, to remain safe from the above threats, Symantec recommends a few suggestions for Web-surfers viz. they should be wary of unfamiliar web-links and mustn't follow those that appear suspicious or are from unknown sources. Also, they shouldn't take down unfamiliar attachments as also while searching for news of the Royal ceremony they should visit only authentic sites.
