FTC Punts Companies for Scareware ScamThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has successfully got a US court's decision in its favor to stop the operations of two companies namely - ByteHosting Internet Services located in Ohio in United States and Innovative Marketing Inc. located in Belize (a Central American country) - for their involvement in a big scareware scam. The two companies were marked as being responsible for a scam in which computer operators were deceptively warned that a virus had infected their systems when they accessed a web page. Moreover, the warning contains a web link to a page where a visitor is advised to purchase anti-virus software such as WinAntivirus, WinFixer, ErrorSafe, DriveCleaner and XP.
