AVG - Malicious Websites Increasing at Rapid PaceAccording to a newly released research by security firm AVG, the number of websites that serve malware is increasing dramatically. The company also said that the total number of malicious sites grew from 100,000-200,000 each day to 200,000-300,000 during October-December 2008. Further, it reveals an astonishing velocity of change in these compromised sites. Despite the fast cleaning of the malware, attacks on these sites are changed to redirect traffic to other sites of which nearly 60% are run for not even full 24 hours. It appears that the objective of this technique is to beat blacklist-based protections that AVG describes as transient threats.
