Red Funnel Customers Being Targeted by Scam Emails

Notably, Red Funnel is a ferry firm that transmits commuters, automobiles and cargo on ways linking the English mainland and the Isle of Wight.

The fake emails that purports to be coming from post@redfunnel.co.uk, employs the company's entire business branding in an attempt to look genuine to its recipients.

With the subject line displaying the ferries confirmation number the malware is loaded within the Microsoft document that arrives with the phony email.

The fake email in case opened will try running a macro which will install all kinds of notorious things that make an attempt to embezzle the victim's credit card details in addition to his passwords.

However, the email is not at all connected to Red Funnel. The company itself is the victim of a scam as those Internauts who are receiving emails purporting to be from it.

The graphics employed by the fake email at its bottom are identical to the ones that Red Funnel uses in the emails actually distributed by it.

Since Red Funnel's server is presently offline, graphics like 'Confirmation' usually appearing at the very top of the company's genuine email are not visible.

Red Funnel claims that it has knowledge of the ongoing scam and is currently trying to address it.

Addressing the scam email issue, a Red Funnel's Spokesperson commented that an advisory had been issued to any person receiving the email directing them not to open the Microsoft Word attachment since it might enclose a computer virus, as published by dailyecho.co.uk on October 8, 2015.

He added that there are no clues to suggest that Red Funnel's security network had been hijacked, and experts had also been hired to recognize the source.

Red Funnel for now appealed for apology from all its patrons for the inconvenience that they were being subjected to.
