24-Year-Old Arrested By Mumbai Police or ‘Hacking’ Woman’s Whatsapp Account

Diptesh Prakashchand Salecha was arrested by the Mumbai Police for hacking WhatsApp and Facebook accounts. The Rajasthan youth, aged 24, was held last year by the Pune Police over similar charges.

A complaint was received by the Bandra police on September 19, 2018, from a 40-year-old Mumbai-based dubbing artist. As per the complaint, the woman received a message from Salecha on her personal Instagram account. In the message, Salecha asked the woman to send her nude photographs and threatened that if she doesn't obey it, then he will send obscene content to the people who are in her WhatsApp contacts list.

Initially, the 40-year-old woman ignored the messages. But, when she started receiving calls from her friends about getting obscene messages on their WhatsApp coming from her phone number, then she immediately notified the authorities as well as filed a complaint with police.

A police officer said that the Bandra police using technical support had traced him, and then he was arrested later from Jodhpur. The police also came to know that Salecha had an FIR registered against him with Versova police for a similar case.

The police officer also said that during the investigation of her complaint, police came to know that a hacking trick was used by Salecha for logging into the woman's personal accounts on the phone. The officer further added that "Salecha had first sent a link from an unknown number to the complainant's WhatsApp number. Once the link is opened, the data can be reviewed by the person who sent her the link and can even send message using the number".

Arrest of Salecha revealed that after Pune and Nashik, he had now set its target in Mumbai. Apart from Bandra, Salecha has targeted similar kind of victims in Versova.

Salecha's first step is to create a forged profile by using identity of a female for making male friends on Facebook, the police said. Then, he asks the male friend for his phone number and after getting that, hack his contact list. From that contact list, he obtained the number of women's and finally hack those WhatsApp account.

DCP Zone 9, Paramjit Singh Dahiya, told Mirror that "after the Bandra case stands detected, the custody of the accused will be soon taken by the Versova police in another case registered against him". Salecha, the 24-year-old youth, was produced before the magistrate's court and was sent to two days' custody of police.
