German student confesses hacking into databases of numerous politicians, including Angela Merkel

In a confession by a student in Germany, news is made that he stole and published private data of numerous politicians prominent among them Angela Merkel German Chancellor with reason cited as certain public statements by them which angered him. The student had been under detention following a raid by police on Sunday of his property situated inside Hesse central state. The raid confiscated one PC, which had been moved out of sight prior to the search, as well as one data backup.

Living with his parents, the man, still a scholar, told police that there was no political motivation behind his action which he carried out alone. He also told authorities that his action was a reaction to the statements that his attack victims made such as leading celebrities, journalists along with politicians.

Investigators in the raid tracked down the man from his Internet activities, while also learnt through conversations with witnesses, among whom one was a teenager, aged 19, with whom there was a communication by the accused through a messaging service. He had communicated that he demolished his PC for eschewing detection; however according to police, they'd unearthed wide clues.

Investigators inside Wiesbaden's BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office) stated that they were sure the man didn't realize how severe his action could be. He admitted he did everything alone from hacking the databases to illegally publishing them, stated the BKA. Ukreuters.com posted this, January 8, 2019. Although early reports suggest China or Russia as being supporters of the hack, the BKA stated there wasn't any clue of an offshore government being behind the assault.

The man is now free but ordered to stay in his parents' apartment while keep cooperating in the investigation. According to investigators, he's not likely to flee the country, so there wasn't any requirement to keep him detained.

There's further speculation of mild sentence for the hacker provided he keeps cooperating with investigators, for one reason he's set alarm for German Internet security experts regarding perpetual vulnerabilities within their systems while possibly help them enhance the securities just when there's such struggle in Germany for hiring IT security experts.
