Scammers Attack University Students

The Student Loans Company is warning that scammers are sending fake e-mails to students of Huddersfield University, soliciting bank or other personal information. 'Examiner' reported this on April 6, 2011.

States SLC that like in every year, scam e-mails are circulating during the present period of 2011 too since Internet fraudsters are aware of students on the verge of getting the last amount of their loans.

Incidentally, students who had provided personal details counted over three-times the number in 2010, the SLC reported. BBC published this on April 6, 2011.

Stated Robert Hurt Security Manager of SLC that the company knew of a few students living in the North-West who had been affected with the fake e-mails and SLC therefore wished to advise those students that they mustn't reply to the messages. Rochdale Online published this on April 5, 2011.

Hurt added that his company monitored such problems intimately and focused on bringing down phishing websites immediately when students alerted it about them, for further safeguard of other students.

Meanwhile, the current incidence isn't unprecedented. During the first-week of April 2011, the same phishing scam victimized students at Yorkshire when an alleged e-mail scam conned the students into losing their loan installments having unknowingly revealed personal information to the tricksters.

However, the SLC suggested certain precautionary measures for students so they could be safe from such phishing incidences. First, they must treat all solicitations for financial alternatively other personal data with suspicion, particularly if the requests appeared urgent.
